Temilade Openiyi, often known as Tems, is a Nigerian singer who was born on June 11th, 1995. She gained notoriety when she appeared on Wizkid’s 2020 single “Essence,” which received a Grammy Award nomination and peaked at number ten on the Billboard Hot 100 after receiving a remix with Justin Bieber’s added participation. She appeared on Drake’s song “Fountains” that same year.
As a prominent Nigerian singer she broke a record for Nigerian music at the 65th annual Grammy Awards in 2023.

The singer, whose significant contributions earned her three nominations for the Grammy Awards in 2023, has won her first Grammy award in the category of “Best Melodic Rap Performance” for her vocal and compositional work on Future’s big single “Wait For U,” which also features Drake and herself.

Burna Boy, a fellow and award-winning singer, was nominated in two categories, but he didn’t take home any awards. Frontman and owner of Spaceship Entertainment, Masa Takumi won “Best Global Album” for his album “Sakura,” while Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini, and Nomcebo Zikode won “Best Global Performance” for their collaboration on the song “Bayethe.”
After the news, Tems received a flood of congrats on social media.
